Andrew Ross has been a dedicated photographer of Wellington’s urban and peripheral environment since the early 1990s. As well as documenting forgotten or dilapidated buildings and sites that are threatened with demolition or have managed to survive replacement by the new, he photographs workplaces and people within their working environments. His use of a large format camera and contact-printing his hand-developed negatives pushes his work into the sphere of fine art photography.


Andrew Ross (born 1966, Masterton), has photographed throughout New Zealand, with a concentration on Southland, Whanganui and Masterton, and has also made series of photography from the USA, UK and Canada. Ross has shown in exhibitions at City Gallery Wellington and Photospace Gallery in Wellington, and his work has featured in Athol McCredie’s New Zealand Photography Collected and the New Zealand Journal of Photography. Ross has photographic works in private and public collections in New Zealand and overseas, including Te Papa Tongarewa, The Dowse Art Museum, The Wellington Museum, Sarjeant Gallery Whanganui, and the Auckland Art Gallery. Andrew Ross lives and works in Wellington.
