Object Detail

Description
Moniek Schrijer’s practice is characterised by her adaptation of materials collected largely from second hand and recycled sources and her use of unconventional jewellery techniques that allow for her pieces to move between jewellery and sculpture. Her work is distinct and weaves together wry humour, critical reflexivity and technical originality. ‘Benthos’ is the scientific name for the assemblage of organisms inhabiting the seafloor. Schrijer was born and raised in the Wellington region. She received a Post-Graduate Diploma from Whitireia in 2013 with a focus on contemporary jewellery. Since then her work has been included in nationally and internationally significant exhibitions. In 2016 she won a prestigious international award for contemporary jewellery.
