Object Detail

Description
This work was Williams' contribution to a project by Auckland art dealer Barry Lett, who in 1969 produced a limited edition set of 12 screenprints by New Zealand’s top artists, known as the Barry Lett Multiples.

Artists involved are: Don Binney, Roberts Ellis, Ralph Hotere, Michael Illingworth, Milan Mrkusich, Mervyn Williams, Ross Ritchie, Michael Smither, Gordon Walters, Toss Woollaston, Patrick Lucas, and Colin McCahon. The set of 12 prints came in a cardboard box with a single glazed frame.

The box, frame and 10 of the prints were rediscovered in the basement of the council building in the 1990s. The box had some water damage. It is unknown how Wellington City Council came to have this limited edition set.Ony 200 were ever printed. Each print was framed in a colour coordinated frame. In 2020 the missing two prints (by Mervyn Williams and Toss Woollaston) were purchased from an auction house to complete the set.
