Object Detail
Description
Yvette Velvin’s paintings stem from interactions with found tiny and beautiful objects that are transformed but kept comfortably familiar. She uses oils to paint the intangible feeling of an object, crafting dreamlike scenes on clay, timber and linen, creating washed abstract pastel-toned canvases alongside mixed media works that feel like the remnants of memories.
Yvette Velvin graduated from Wellington’s Massey University College of Creative Arts in 2015. Velvin has exhibited in Wellington at Precinct 35 Gallery, and Toi Pōneke Gallery with her solo exhibition Something in Mind 2018. Velvin is also an actor and played the character of Sinead in the 2019 film Births Deaths and Marriages.
