Description
This triptych is collaborative etching by Wellington based poet, painter, and curator Gregory O’Brien and Auckland based artist and poet John Pule.
The triptych reveals motifs particular to each artist including the influence of poetry and Pacific imagery. O’Brien and Pule were sent the etching plates for these works by Michael Kempson, Director of Cicada Press and Senior Lecturer / Co-ordinator of Printmaking Studies at the University of New South Wales. They worked on the etchings one at time on several occasions.
O’Brien and Pule are well respected New Zealand artists and have both been honoured with laureate awards from the Arts Foundation of New Zealand. In 2012 Pule was also named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services as an author, poet and painter. O’Brien received a Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement in the same year.
