Description
Courtney Lucas completed a Bachelor of Design (Photography) (Honours) at Massey University in Wellington in 2002. Since then, she has exhibited in a number of Wellington galleries. In 2007, City Gallery included these photographs in the group exhibition ‘The Secret Life of Plants’, named after the 1973 book. The introduction describes the book as ‘a fascinating account of the physical, emotional, and spiritual relations between plants and man.’
Trompoline, along with another of Lucas' works Rope, serves to critique the ‘naturalness’ of the floral and faunal imagery which pervades everyday life, subtly transforming the familiar into the strange.
