Object Detail

Description
John Drawbridge was strongly associated with Wellington as an artist. Flight is one of his 'dialogues' with art history. It refers to the late paintings and cut-outs of Henri Matisse, but it also bears the imprint of the land and seascape in which it was created. Painted three years after the artist returned from England, it is full of the wind, sea and light of Wellington harbour and Cook Strait.
