Object Detail
Description
Olive Laurenson was an active painter and exhibiting member of all of New Zealand’s Art Societies: the groups by which this country’s art was developed from the early 1900s. Although the ‘annals’ of New Zealand Art History do not record her contribution or achievement, as seen in this work, she was a skilled painter exploring various techniques and effects. Calling attention to Windswept Trees, she moves beyond a typical view of landscape to animate Macrocarpa trees with her gestural and often dramatic strokes of paint.
Media
Oil on artist's board, gold spray paint on verso.
