Description
As City Photographer for Wellington City Council, Neil Price was responsible for much of the imagery that originates at the council and defines how we see and promote our city. Working across all Council departments, he documented many of the major projects that Wellington City Council undertook as a local authority. Price retired from the Wellington City Council in mid-2022, after 35 years of service.

This image is part of a suite of images Price created for the City Art Collection, expressing the liveliness of summer in the capital city, with ironic and humorous titles giving an edge to his documentary-style imagery. This same year, 1990, Wellington celebrated the sesquicentennial (150 years) of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. The ambitious ‘Sesqui 1990’ festival was an administrative failure however several new artworks were added to Wellington’s City Art Collection through purchase, commission, or donation.
